Welcome!
Humane Society of Grand Valley is a student run organization at Grand Valley State University that is dedicated to bettering the lives of animals and the environment we all live in. We do this by volunteering with local shelters, fundraising for causes that combat animal cruelty and help homeless animals, lobbying at the state and national levels, and educating the public about animal-related issues and how to be more humane.
Meetings every other week- Tuesdays at 9pm in MAK B1-112
Past Events
March 2019 HSGV took a day trip to Black Pine Animal Sanctuary in Albion, Indiana. During our time spent there, we cleaned enclosures of the various animals being housed there and helped prepare their food. The focus of this trip was to help prepare the facility for the summer. In meetings we designed bandannas
February 2019 HSGV hosted four "Downward Dog Yoga" events over the span of the month to encourage relaxation for students, but also raise money for the Humane Society of Western Michigan.
As a club, we also upcycled old t-shirts to make fun dog toys for the Humane Society of Western Michigan.
October 2018 HSGV partnered with GV's Sustainability Club to help educate students and community members about how to properly dispose of used items. Together we ensured that GVSU not only won the football game but also had a zero waste event.
Members also volunteered at the John Ball Zoo's "Zoo Goes Boo" event. They passed out candy and publicized the club and its intentions in the community.
November 2015 HSGV took part in "Veg Out". This event is put on with a variety of student groups to educate students about adding more vegetables into their diet. The event focused on the health, environmental, and ecological benefits of eating more vegetables, as well as educating students on the realities of factory farming.
